The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan laid the first pillars of the system of empowering Emirati women in all social and economic fields, by issuing a set of laws and legislation, and establishing active and effective entities that serve and support women in understanding their rights and helping them obtain them.

The late Sheikh Zayed, may God have mercy on him, believed in the capabilities of women and the importance of their role as a partner with men in the process of construction and development. Emirati women received his attention and support, until they played their natural role as a major contributor to the process of construction and development before and after the founding of the United Arab Emirates.

During the era of the late deceased, the first women’s gathering appeared in the Emirates, where the “Dhabian Women’s Development Association” was established on February 8, 1973, followed by the launch of women’s associations in various emirates of the country, and the establishment of the Women’s Union in 1975, including women’s associations in the emirates of the country. all.

The establishment of women’s associations marked the beginning of an extended road and a rich procession of initiatives and projects implemented by the state to empower women economically and socially, as the UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day on August 28, the same day on which the General Women’s Union was founded. The celebration represents an appreciation and tribute to what Emirati women have provided to support the country’s progress inside and outside the country.

During the era of the late deceased, the most important laws were issued on which the institutions operating in the state were based regarding women’s access to their rights equally and as a contributing partner who takes into account their abilities and hopes. Among the most prominent laws were the laws that guaranteed her the right to education and her right to the best level of health care, as well as the right to obtain financial aid in a manner that is appropriate. Independent, and the right to obtain housing, and other basic rights that guarantee her a life of dignity and enable her to continue her life in a safe and stable manner.

The UAE recognizes and values ​​women’s unpaid care work and domestic work, by providing public services and infrastructure, developing social protection policies, and promoting the sharing of responsibility within the family. According to Federal Law No. (2) of 2001 regarding Social Security, which was issued during the era of the late Sheikh Zayed, a number of groups of women are entitled to monthly assistance. These categories include: widows and abandoned women, as well as female citizens married to foreigners who cannot earn a living for reasons beyond their control.

According to Federal Law No. (2) of 2001 regarding Social Security, a female citizen married to a foreigner is entitled to social assistance for herself and her children in the event that the husband suffers from a medical disability or a disability that prevents him from working, or in the event that the husband is imprisoned or suspended for a period of not less than two months, as well as In the event that the husband is deported from the country, a female citizen married to a foreigner is also entitled to assistance on her own behalf only if the husband has no income due to reasons beyond his control, or if the husband’s income is less than the average required to meet his needs. Family. A widowed citizen whose foreign husband has died is entitled to social assistance for herself and her children.

As for the laws that helped empower women educationally, this was clear in the articles of the Constitution and legislation issued during the era of the late Sheikh Zayed, as Article (17) of the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates and Article (1) of Federal Law No. (11) indicate. ) of 1972 regarding compulsory education, stipulating that education is an essential factor for the progress of society, and that it is compulsory for females and males in its primary stage, and free of charge at all its stages throughout the country.
