They told Emirates Today that the protection of intellectual property rights currently faces three main challenges, which are the lack of sufficient knowledge and awareness among some consumers about avoiding counterfeit parts, in addition to the difficulty of tracking the supply chains for counterfeit goods, and the lack of knowledge of some of them in using modern technologies to detect infringement of counterfeit goods. Dr. Hoda Barakat, President of the International Intellectual Property Association in the Emirates, said that the expansion of the use and adoption of artificial intelligence technologies enhances the protection of trademarks and intellectual property rights, by taking advantage of these technologies that save time and effort in detecting supply chains of counterfeit goods.
She added that relying on artificial intelligence technologies in the intellectual property sector has become an urgent necessity, because these technologies are an essential factor in confronting parties that rely on modern technologies to imitate trademarks more accurately, compared to previous periods.
She stressed that the UAE was a pioneer in adopting artificial intelligence standards and blockchain technology, which greatly enhanced innovation and intellectual property protection.
She pointed out that some parties that infringe on trademark rights rely on the lack of awareness and the resort of some consumers to buying cheap goods.
For his part, Secretary-General of the Arab Union for Trade Facilitation and Risk Management, Rani Sader, said that the use of modern technologies and reliance on them has become an important standard within efforts to preserve intellectual property rights and protect trademarks.
He added that the rapid development of technologies provides many services to institutions working in the intellectual property sector, especially in the face of some of them using these technologies to infringe trademarks.
In turn, Bilal Jabak, head of the after-sales services department at Nissan Middle East, said that protecting intellectual property rights currently faces three main challenges.
