Three university students have invented a vibrating pillow that acts as an alarm clock, to help people of determination who are blind or hard of hearing wake up at the time they specify, without having to resort to someone to help them wake up at the specified time.

Student Sarah Imad Al-Sumaidi told Emirates Today that she participated with her colleagues Shamsa Saif Al-Suwaidi and Shamma Ahmed Al-Khaja in implementing the project, under the supervision of their teacher Radwa Ismail, to compete among the best 100 student projects at the state level, in the Science, Technology and Innovation Festival competition. , which was organized by the Ministry of Education, at the Dubai Festival Arena, last academic year.

The student explained the components of the project and how it works, where a sound-sensitive device is used, installed in a pillow or sleeping mattress, and connected to a vibration device. The sound-sensitive device receives audio signals from the alarm clock, to translate the audio signals, and transfer them to vibrations connected to the sound-sensing device, and all of this works from By programming the information and transferring it to the device, the vibration machine inside the pillow then vibrates when the sound alarm goes off, and then the pillow vibrates automatically, which causes the sleeping person to wake up.

Regarding the reason for choosing the idea of the “vibrating pillow” project, Al-Sumaidi said, “Necessity is the mother of invention, and when we face certain problems in life, we must not give up, and search for appropriate solutions to overcome them. Waking up at a specific time in the morning is easy and natural for the general public, as alarm clocks have become “Audio is easy to use, but there are many people who do not benefit from using these devices, such as people of determination who suffer from hearing impairment or who suffer from heavy sleep.”

She continued that the “vibrating pillow” project is an alarm clock for a specific category, instead of an audio alarm, using a vibrating device inside the pillow to wake the person up at the specified time.
