The Federal Nuclear Control Authority revealed 47 safety inspections at the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station during the year 2024.

She confirmed in a media briefing at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, yesterday, the adoption of 267 reactor operators, and a first reactor operator at the station, pointing out that the number of workers in the authority is currently 254 employees, 76% of them are citizens, while women represent 45% of their workforce.

In detail, the Director General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Control, Christre Victorson, said that the authority continued its supervision on the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station during the year 2024, by performing 47 safety inspections in areas that include: refueling, maintenance, and energy climb testing, etc. He added in a media briefing at the authority’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, yesterday, that with the operation of the four commercial units, the UAE has become a successful model for new countries that are interested in building nuclear energy programs.

He continued: «The authority has so far adopted 267 reactor operators and a first reactor operator, at the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station, according to our licensing requirements, to ensure their readiness and competence in operating the station.

He revealed that «the authority launched the system of smart plate for nuclear safety, in cooperation with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center,” noting that “the system provides instant information about the vicinity of the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station, including monitoring sea levels, the surface temperature of the Earth, and the sea, And earthquakes.

He continued: «The authority carried out 50 inspection operations related to guarantees, and 96 inspections related to import and export control,” stressing that thanks to the strict regulatory infrastructure and adherence to international agreements, the International Atomic Energy Agency stated in 2024 that the UAE has a peaceful nuclear energy program It is compatible with international agreements.

He stated that during the past year, the authority continued its mission of controlling radioactive sources and material protection of nuclear materials and facilities, as 58 supervisory inspections of the security of establishments that use radioactive materials, and the implementation of 195 inspections of radioactive resource transport vehicles, and seven searches conducted searches. It relates to the security of the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station.

He pointed out that the commission launched a transformative project, which is the “National Program for the Rehabilitation of Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, and aims to develop Emirati capabilities by training 3000 employees in the field of nuclear or radiological emergencies in all related sectors in The UAE, and at the same time, the authority continued its supervisory mission through the license and inspection of facilities that use radiological sources, as 210 inspections in medical and non -medical facilities carried out, and issued 1090 licenses for facilities, and more than 1,600 import and export permit.

He stressed that the UAE joined 43 countries, within the response and assistance network of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as it expressed its willingness to provide international assistance to countries during nuclear or radiological emergencies.
