Dubai Municipality announced the completion of the beautification and greening project at the intersection of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, presenting an icon that welcomes visitors to Dubai with a wonderful modern view that adds a unique charm that reflects the city’s attractiveness from above.
The municipality was keen to ensure that the project has a unique design that reflects the spirit of modernity and takes into account the principles of sustainability, given the importance of the intersection as one of the first landmarks seen by visitors coming to the emirate.
The design includes welcoming phrases in Arabic and English, “Welcome to Dubai,” which enhances the feeling of distinction and welcome among visitors from the moment they arrive.
Director General of Dubai Municipality, Dawood Al Hajri, stressed that the project is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to make Dubai the best city to live in the world. It also embodies the municipality’s continuous efforts to double the green spaces in the emirate and enhance the beauty of the city in line with global sustainability standards, pointing out the importance of such vital projects in creating an attractive environment for visitors and residents of the emirate alike.
He said: “The project is one of a series of projects implemented by the municipality within the framework of greening and beautifying the emirate, and it contributes to enhancing Dubai’s attractiveness and distinction in providing a balanced environment that combines urban development and takes into account elements of environmental sustainability.”
He added: “We continue to implement projects aimed at increasing the vegetation cover and adding an aesthetic touch that contributes to enhancing Dubai’s position and global presence.”
The beautification and greening project at the intersection of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road covers an area of more than 360 thousand square metres, at a total cost of 26 million dirhams, making it one of the largest beautification projects in the emirate.
The design features striking aesthetic elements including the use of colored pebbles and innovative night lighting, creating a unique visual experience for visitors both during the day and at night. Thanks to the thoughtful color coordination, travelers can enjoy the beauty of the project throughout the day, and the lighting elements are one of the features that add a charming atmosphere to the area, highlighting its distinction and uniqueness.
The project included a diverse agricultural and landscaping system, where 50,000 trees and plants were planted, in addition to a variety of shrubs and ground covers of different types that were carefully selected to add botanical diversity that enriches the aesthetic landscape. Innovative plant fences were also designed to add vitality to the design and enhance its visual appeal, and were supported by modern and advanced irrigation systems that work to improve water use efficiency and ensure the long-term sustainability of plants to achieve a balance between natural beauty and sustainability.
The municipality intends to implement more agricultural and landscaping projects to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of Dubai, and enhance its position as a global tourist destination with unprecedented standards.
These initiatives contribute to adding a unique aesthetic character to the city and strengthening its urban appeal, in line with its future vision for growth and distinction.
