The Ministry of Health reported that there is no medical or legal law that permits the removal of life support from clinically deceased persons, whether at the request of them or their families or guardians.
In detail, the citizen (Umm Muhammad) told “Emirates Today” that she had a relative who died in a government hospital in Dubai, after he was taken off life support, despite his family’s opposition to this procedure.
She added that the doctor who was supervising her relative’s condition asked them to agree to take him off life support and donate his organs to patients in need.
She said, “The patient was admitted to the hospital suffering from fractures and wounds after being exposed to a car accident, in addition to spending almost a full week in a coma, from which he woke up before his doctor decided to take him off life support, but the doctor did not give him long, and insisted on considering him clinically dead, demanding that his organs be donated to patients.” Others.
Citizen Abdulaziz Ahmed said that his mother died in a government hospital after the devices were removed from her with his approval and the consensus of the treating doctors, given that she was living on the devices.
He continued: “My mother suffered from constant high blood pressure and diabetes, which required her to stay in the hospital for several months. The last time I took her to the hospital, she had a high fever and high blood pressure, as a result of which she fell into a coma.”
During her stay in the hospital, she suffered kidney failure and a stroke, according to doctors, who confirmed that her heart stopped for two minutes and then resumed beating slowly. They attributed this to the life support devices that kept her alive.
Ahmed confirmed that he agreed to this procedure after taking the opinion of a Sharia scholar.
In addition, Dr. Joseph Shukri, the senior consultant and head of the Department of Anesthesia, Central Care and Pain Medicine at Al Qasimi Hospital, denied that it would be possible to remove life support from patients in public and private state hospitals.
He said, “The procedures for dealing with clinically deceased patients require that life support be maintained until death is declared natural, with the heart stopping and liver and kidney functions being disrupted.”
He added: “There are many cases for which life support was not taken off, and they remained in the hospital for days and months, depending on the nature of each of them’s condition,” denying an estimate or specifying a period for keeping the devices on the patient.
“Health” denies
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Media Affairs, Dr. Abdul Ghaffar Abdul Ghafour, confirmed that there is no medical or legal law that allows removing life support from clinically deceased people. and
The Federal National Council recently approved 14 articles of the Medical Liability Law, which stipulate that it is not permissible to end a patient’s life for whatever reason, even if that is based on his request or the request of his guardian or guardian.

Explaining that, “If doctors agree that the patient is clinically dead and that the resuscitation device preserves the soul of the deceased, and that if it is removed the patient will die in a second, then it must be removed. However, if there is a possibility that he will survive on life support, even if it is one in a million, then it is not permissible to remove the devices from him.”
