A banking official told «Emirates Today» that banks are obligated to request a salary certificate, or what is useful for the source of income from the customer, if you find in his bank account money that are not commensurate with his usual income suddenly.

The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the salary certificate, although it was not explicitly mentioned in the requirements of the update in force in normal circumstances, but that monitoring bank accounts and its unusual movements are mandatory from the central bank that authorizes banks asking the source of income from The customer, as it is entitled to stop dealing on the account and cards, if the customer does not respond to it during the period specified for a month.

He added: «For example, if the customer’s income over several years ago revolves around 5,000 dirhams, and suddenly the bank found in his account an amount of 200 thousand dirhams, the source is not known, here the bank has the right to take several steps, the first of which is the request of the source of these funds or a recent salary certificate For the customer, then give it a deadline, and after a month, the bank must temporarily stop the bank account, and inform the central bank that issues the decision to continue to suspend the account until the update, or inform the police services, according to what it sees, and according to the value of the existing amounts ».

He continued: «The procedures in force in the UAE, whether under the initiative (Know your customer), or for combating money laundering, are all transparent and clear to customers, so they must respond to the banks with which they deal with updating data and providing important documents to avoid closing their bank accounts.
