The Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, conducted a number of field tours on a group of cooperative societies and sales outlets in the state markets, which included the Union Cooperative Association in Dubai, the Lulu Hypermarket, and five major retail trade outlets, with the aim of ensuring the stability of prices Goods and products, and their availability in quantities that guarantee meet the need of consumers before the blessed month of Ramadan.

The Ministry of Economy stated that these tours come within the framework of its efforts to ensure the compliance of cooperative societies and sales outlets of the legislation and policies of consumer protection and their application in the state, especially the commitment of the new pricing policy that has identified nine basic consumer goods, including: cooking oil, eggs, dairy, rice, sugar, and poultry And legumes, bread, and wheat, whose prices can only be increased with prior approval by the Ministry, according to Cabinet Resolution No. 120 of 2022 regarding the rules and controls of pricing consumer goods.

The Minister of Economy stressed that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, today has an advanced legislative environment to protect consumer rights, based on the best practices used globally, which contributed to enhancing communication between the ministry and economic development departments in the country and the relevant government agencies, to implement the required oversight on the sales outlets in State markets, establishing a competitive consumer environment, building a balanced relationship between merchants and consumers at the level of the Seven Emirates, and preventing any manipulation of commodity and products prices, and educating consumers and those equipped with their rights and duties alike, to ensure the protection of everyone’s rights.

He said: «During the rounds, we focused on ensuring the extent of the commitment of the sales outlets to apply the new pricing policy for the nine basic consumer goods, and to ensure that they are not unjustified, and to show the prices of products clearly and read to consumers, in line with the Ministry’s strategic goals to enhance consumer rights, from In order to provide a suitable and safe environment when buying goods and products. ”

He pointed out that these tours come as a new step to enhance communication channels with merchants and suppliers, and to enhance their awareness of the importance of consumer behavior code, and its role in ensuring the success of the application of the new pricing policy, enabling sound commercial practices, enhancing market control, supporting service or commodity providing according to the highest standards Quality, as a state target to improve the quality of the lives of citizens and residents.

During the tour, the Minister of Economy inspected a number of departments within the outlets of sales and commercial chains, and monitored the availability of goods, especially the basic materials that are frequently demanded during the holy month of Ramadan, and also listened to the opinions of a group of shoppers on the extent of the stability of commodity prices in the outlets.

The Ministry of Economy emphasized that the tours witnessed positive cooperation between the ministry and the outlets, regarding the promotion of the exchange of information and data concerned with basic consumer goods on a continuous manner, and the importance of their availability in a sustainable manner, while providing distinctive discounts and offers to consumers in conjunction with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

The ministry noted that the consumer is a partner in the control process by interacting with the supervisory authorities, and continuous communication with the ministry through its channels always available to them, to submit complaints, or to report harmful commercial practices to protect the consumer, or to submit proposals and ideas that contribute to the development of the consumer protection climate in the country, Through the number (8001222).
