A group of young citizens employed their potential and energies for volunteer work, and established a company that recycles and rehabilitates used furniture, instead of throwing it away, so that it can be used again. They then furnish the homes of needy families with it, in cooperation and coordination with charitable agencies accredited in the state.
The company’s members, namely: Muhammad Mahmoud Fikri, Badr Khaled Al-Nouhi, Ohood Al-Hashimi, Najla Al-Mandoos, and Sarab Ahmed, said that they founded “Khazaen”, an Emirati company that provides a service for preserving the furniture of people or families who travel for long periods outside the country, which may exceed Six months, as the furniture for their homes is preserved from damage in safe, air-conditioned warehouses, and the proceeds from this service are directed to providing voluntary community services to deserving families, in cooperation with associations. Charity.
The other part of the company’s activity relates to community volunteer work, “through which we collect used furniture from volunteer families, store it in our warehouses, then sort it, rehabilitate the useful ones, and deliver them, in cooperation with charitable institutions and associations, to the homes of needy families.”
They pointed out that “student volunteers at Khalifa University help the company paint the walls of the homes of needy families, then provide them with furniture, which has been rehabilitated and recycled,” noting the increased demand among university students for volunteer work, as more than 100 students expressed their willingness to participate. In this humanitarian work, the university allows each student to perform 20 volunteer hours per academic year. They added, “We plan to furnish a house every month, as a first step,” and stated that “the project idea won first place in the World Youth Forum in which they recently participated.”
