A microsurgical procedure was successfully performed at Al Noor Hospital for a 65-year-old citizen patient suffering from severe stenosis in the left main coronary artery, using advanced technology that had recently arrived at the hospital.
The medical team was able to place a stent to expand the blockage using the technology that was recently available in the hospital, which is a modern device recommended by heart societies in the world, which combines the two most recent methods for evaluating arterial blockage through its ability to accurately depict the size of the narrowing in the artery in addition to its ability to Accurate measurement of the amount of arterial blood flow to the heart.
Cardiologist and head of the cardiology department at Al Nour Hospital on Airport Street, Dr. Ahmed Mounir, said, “This operation and this modern technique for widening the artery and implanting a stent was performed using this advanced device for the first time in such cases in the hospital.”
This procedure was performed by Dr. Muhammad Andron, a consultant interventional cardiologist at Al Noor Hospital, who has worked for several years in multiple heart centers in the United Kingdom.
In turn, Dr. Muhammad Andron said, “The operation, which was guided by advanced imaging technology, was performed through a small opening in the wrist.” He added, “This new technology is designed to take infrared images to accurately measure the amount of plaque on the artery wall, which may be difficult to evaluate with traditional techniques. He added that the operation took two hours under local anesthesia, and the patient left the hospital in excellent health the next day.”
